The song above must be familiar to you. Eid is the most awaited moment at the end of the month of Ramadan. On Eid day, many people usually celebrate it with their family and loved ones. In addition, Eid is also synonymous with delicious dishes that are appetizing and often tempt you to eat them.


Actually consuming food on Eid day is not entirely dangerous, as long as you can control yourself. Dishes on holidays usually contain high cholesterol, such as fatty meats, coconut milk foods, and so on. So that excessive eating patterns are at risk of causing increased cholesterol and other health problems.


Luckily, there are natural solutions that can help you keep your cholesterol in check during Eid, namely by consuming ginger. Ginger is a spice that has long been used in traditional medicine because of its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anti-cholesterol properties.


A preclinical study conducted by Singh et al. (2009) stated that ginger can help lower total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL (low-density lipoprotein), and free fatty acids in the blood. The content of gingerol, the active compound in ginger, can help stimulate the conversion of cholesterol into bile acids and increase the removal of cholesterol from the body. In addition, the content of this active substance is also able to inhibit the absorption of cholesterol in the digestive tract. Thus, consuming ginger can help reduce the risk of high cholesterol.


Besides being able to lower cholesterol levels, ginger also has other benefits. Based on a literature study conducted by Jafarnejad et al (2016), ginger can increase HDL cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein) or good cholesterol in the body. HDL cholesterol helps transport cholesterol from the arteries back to the liver for processing and disposal, which can help clean the arteries and protect heart health.


Ginger is the right choice to be consumed during Eid. Apart from its delicious taste and being able to warm the body, ginger is also able to keep your body healthy to carry out worship on fitri holidays.
