Indonesia Produces 500 Tons of Red Ginger for Herbal Medicine

Vidjongtius stated that with this quantity, the farmers can produce 400 to 500 tons of red ginger, which may be utilized not only for Kalbe, but also for other purposes.

"So, in terms of tonnage, it is greater than 400-500 tons. That is an incredible capability, and it is, incidentally, still demanded," he stated.

In fact, during Covid-19, Vidjongtius showed that there was a surge in demand for red ginger products. This is due to the fact that the appearance of Covid-19 was unexpected, despite the fact that the items were already present, he added.

Herbal products, including red ginger, contribute for 5-10% of overall sales. Vidjongtius recognized that the number was still tiny. But it doesn't matter since it's only getting started.

"We've planned for at least a 50% increase in red ginger growth over previous year. However, if necessary, we may boost it once again," he came to a decision.

Previously, the Ministry of Industry said that the chemical, pharmaceutical, and traditional medicine sectors grew 18.57 percent or more in the fourth quarter of 2019 compared to 9.47 percent in the third quarter of 2019.
